Thierry Pillot's Bâtard-Montrachet comes from one of the Côte de Beaune's grandest white terroirs, straddling Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. Grand Cru Chardonnay from this vineyard carries real weight and density, the limestone soils giving a wine built for the long haul rather than early drinking.

Expect a rich, powerful style with the structure to age, layered with orchard fruit, hazelnut and a mineral core that sharpens on the finish. Serve at 12-14°C with shellfish, lobster or a firm cheese board — this is a wine that rewards proper attention at table, not a background pour.
