Paul Avril - Clos des Papes - Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Clos des Papes is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's benchmark Grenache-based reds, grown on the appellation's famous galets roulés in the southern Rhône. The estate builds its wine around old-vine Grenache, giving depth and structure that reflect the appellation's sun-baked terroir rather than any single vintage's character.

Expect a broad-shouldered red with warmth, dark fruit and a savoury, garrigue-scented finish. On board it suits richer fare: lamb chops off the grill, roast pork or poultry with robust sauces. Serve at 16-18°C to let the fruit and spice open fully.
